Moon Ring

Every once in a while, conditions are just right to form a moon ring (or moon halo). Moon rings are caused by the light from the moon (which is actually reflected sunlight) reflecting off of high altitude ice crystals. This moon halo occurred in the late evening of 18 January 2003. Moon halos are thought to predict the arrival of snow. This one failed to deliver.
